Compress JPG Images Online
Reduce JPEG file sizes with an adjustable quality setting. Compress a batch locally, compare the real savings and keep the original if it is already smaller.

Choose images
Select multiple files for a batch. Choosing again replaces the current selection.
JPG/WebP quality may decrease. PNG follows the selected palette mode. Dimensions change only when allowed. If the target cannot be reached, no over-target file is offered as a success.
How to compress JPG files
- Select one or more supported images.
- Choose quality/PNG settings or Fit under a target size. Enter a maximum KB size if targeting.
- Optionally allow smaller dimensions when the target needs fewer pixels.
- Compress, compare actual bytes and dimensions, and download the successful results.
JPEG quality and target-size compression
The default mode decodes a photo and re-encodes it at your chosen JPEG quality while keeping its dimensions. Target-size mode searches for a quality that fits under your KB maximum. If you allow smaller dimensions, it can reduce the pixel count as well. Every result reports its actual size and dimensions.
JPEG is lossy, so a compressed copy can show artefacts around text, sharp edges or detailed textures. Compare the downloaded result at the size where it will be used. Keep the original and avoid repeatedly recompressing the same copy, because each new lossy generation can degrade it further.
A tiny JPEG or a file that has already been strongly compressed may not shrink. Varento measures the output and does not label a larger file as a saving. Newly encoded results omit source metadata; if the unchanged original is returned because it is smaller, its original metadata remains. The tool is intended for browser-friendly images rather than archival colour-critical conversion.
Target-size mode aims for a maximum, not an exact byte count. One KB means 1,024 bytes here. JPEG and WebP search for a quality setting within the target. PNG follows your selected lossless or reduced-palette mode. Smaller dimensions are used only if you explicitly enable them. If the target cannot be met, the tool shows an error instead of offering an over-target file as a success. An unchanged original that is already small enough can retain its original metadata.
Privacy and browser support
Your input is handled in this browser tab. Selected files and entered text are not sent to Varento Tools by this tool. Some specialized libraries load only when needed. A browser with JavaScript and sufficient device memory is required. Read our local-processing explanation.

Frequently asked questions
Is this tool free without daily usage limits?
Yes. Varento Tools has no signup, accounts, usage-count caps, paywalls or watermarks. Device memory, format support and browser restrictions can still limit technically demanding files.
Is JPG compression lossless?
This tool uses lossy JPEG encoding. It does not promise identical pixels or no quality loss.
Do dimensions change?
Dimensions remain unchanged by default. In target-size mode, they may decrease only if you enable Allow smaller dimensions.
Can I choose a target such as 200 KB?
Yes. Choose Fit under a target size, enter a KB maximum and optionally allow smaller dimensions. The result is checked against the actual byte limit.
Why was my original kept?
The attempted compressed copy was larger. Keeping the smaller original avoids an unnecessary increase.
