How to use Data Storage Converter

  1. Choose decimal or binary units.
  2. Enter the size and select source and target units.
  3. Convert and review both the target value and byte total.

How the result is produced

Decimal KB, MB, GB and TB use powers of 1,000 bytes. Binary KiB, MiB, GiB and TiB use powers of 1,024 bytes. Choose the convention before entering the source and target units.

This tool converts storage quantities, not transfer speed. It does not treat KB and KiB as interchangeable. Very large or fractional values use floating-point arithmetic.

KB versus KiB: choose the right convention

Choose the convention used by the original measurement. The selector converts within decimal units or within binary units; use bytes as an intermediate value when changing conventions.

Example input

Binary: 1 GiB → MiB
Decimal: 1 GB → MB

Expected result

1 GiB = 1024 MiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes
1 GB = 1000 MB = 1,000,000,000 bytes

Common questions and errors

How do I convert GB to GiB with these controls?

Convert the GB amount to bytes in Decimal mode. Switch to Binary mode, enter that byte total, then choose bytes to GiB. For example, 1,000,000,000 bytes is approximately 0.931323 GiB.

Why is a drive capacity displayed differently?

Decimal and binary units describe the same bytes using different divisors. A 1 TB byte quantity is about 931.323 GiB. Formatting and reserved space can further reduce usable capacity.

Are megabits and megabytes the same?

No. A byte is eight bits. This tool converts storage in bytes, not network rates such as Mbps.

Frequently asked questions

Is this tool free without daily usage limits?

Yes. Varento Tools has no signup, accounts, usage-count caps, paywalls or watermarks. Device memory, format support and browser restrictions can still limit technically demanding files.

Why is a terabyte not a tebibyte?

One TB is 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. One TiB is 1,099,511,627,776 bytes. They use different powers and should not share the same label.

Is my input uploaded?

No. This utility processes input in the current browser tab. The tool code does not upload your files, tokens or text to a processing API.

What limitations should I know?

This tool converts storage quantities, not transfer speed. It does not treat KB and KiB as interchangeable. Very large or fractional values use floating-point arithmetic.
