Know what the numbers mean
Word counts can differ between editors because there is no single rule that fits every language and punctuation style. Where available, this counter uses your browser’s Unicode-aware word segmentation. The fallback counts letter/number groups and common apostrophes. Standalone punctuation does not count as a word.
The character count includes spaces and line breaks and counts Unicode code points. An emoji with a skin-tone modifier or a family emoji can consist of several code points, so this is not a count of visual glyphs. A separate count excludes whitespace. Paragraphs are blocks separated by blank lines.
Sentence totals are a practical punctuation-based estimate, not grammatical analysis. A final unpunctuated phrase counts as a sentence, but abbreviations and unusual punctuation can affect the result. Reading time assumes 225 words per minute and rounds up. Use the destination editor’s count when an assignment or submission system defines its own rules.

Is this tool free without daily usage limits?
Yes. Varento Tools has no signup, accounts, usage-count caps, paywalls or watermarks. Device memory, format support and browser restrictions can still limit technically demanding files.
Are spaces included in characters?
Yes in the main total. The no-spaces figure excludes whitespace, including line breaks and tabs.
Why does another counter show a different word count?
Tools handle hyphens, apostrophes, scripts and punctuation differently. Follow the rules of the system receiving your text.
Is my text saved or sent anywhere?
The counter code works in this tab and does not upload or store your text. Avoid assuming your browser or device is private from other local users.
How is reading time calculated?
It is an estimate at 225 words per minute, rounded up. Actual speed depends on the reader and material.
