How to convert image formats

  1. Choose JPG, PNG or WebP images. A batch may contain different supported formats.
  2. Select JPG, PNG or WebP as the common output.
  3. For JPG or WebP, choose quality. For JPG, set the background used behind transparency.
  4. Convert and save each result or a ZIP, with output format, dimensions and file sizes shown.

Pick a format for the destination

Choose JPG for photographs and destinations that expect JPEG files. JPG has no transparency and uses lossy compression. Choose PNG for transparent graphics and workflows that require a lossless output format. Choose WebP when the receiving application supports it and efficient web delivery matters.

Format conversion is not the same as improving the source. A PNG made from a compressed JPEG cannot recover missing detail; a JPEG made from a transparent PNG needs a background. Changing the file extension alone would not convert its contents, which is why this tool decodes and re-encodes the image.

Dimensions remain unchanged. The size comparison can show an increase, particularly when a photo is converted to PNG. This workflow exports still images and omits original metadata. For animated files, archival profiles or very large images, use an editor designed for that requirement. Your selected files are processed locally, with specialized PNG compression kept in its separate tool.

Frequently asked questions

Is this tool free without daily usage limits?

Yes. Varento Tools has no signup, accounts, usage-count caps, paywalls or watermarks. Device memory, format support and browser restrictions can still limit technically demanding files.

Which input formats are supported?

This converter accepts JPG/JPEG, PNG and WebP. HEIC has a separate HEIC to JPG tool.

Can I convert mixed formats together?

Yes. Add supported images and choose a common output format for the batch.

Does PNG output remove backgrounds?

No. PNG supports transparency but the converter does not identify and erase photo backgrounds.

Can conversion increase file size?

Yes. The result panel shows the actual size so you can choose the appropriate format.
